गत एक हजार साल में राजस्थान के मीणा आदिवासियों के वैभव और विक्रम को, जल जंगल जमीन के धर्म को, राग और रंगो को, रूप और रास को, न जाने किसकी नजर लग गई है । फिर भी यह महान जाति बड़ी प्रसन्न, उदार और अलमस्त सहृदयरही है, उनके तन पर गोदनो की सुन्दरता, पक्षी जानवर व पेड़ों में देव आस्था, मेलों का लोक रंग, उनके कंठ में गीत का अमृत और पैरों में नृत्य का सम्मोहन रचा हुआ है ! प्राचीन काल से ही लोकगीत मीणा समाज मेँ जीवन का एक अभिन्न अंग रहे है चाहे मांगलिक कार्य हो या उत्सव,देवी-देवताओं को मनाने के लिए कोई पूजा हो या किसी संस्कार,मेले या दैनिक कार्य करने का समय वह अपने मनोभावों की अभिव्यक्ति लोक गीतों के रूप में करते है ये लोक जागृति का सफल माध्यम भी है । इन लोकगीतों ने ही मीणा समुदाय की प्राचीन परम्पराओं,संस्कृति और इतिहास को अभी तक संजोए रखा है। पुरुषवादी सोच और सामाजिक बेड़ियों से संघर्ष के बावजूद इसमें महिलाओ का योगदान महत्वपूर्ण रहा है |प्रसिद्द गायका नानगी गुजरात में लारी खेंचती थी पर अपनी संस्कृति में दिल में संजोये रखती थी उनके बारे में एक गीत प्रसिद्द है :- ''दन म दो बार चाय बणावे...

The Meena tribe is divided into several clans and sub-clans ( adakh s), which are named after their ancestors. Some of the   adakh s include Ariat, Ahari, Katara, Kalsua, Kharadi, Damore, Ghoghra, Dali, Doma, Nanama, Dadore, Manaut, Charpota, Mahinda, Rana, Damia, Dadia, Parmar, Phargi, Bamna, Khat, Hurat, Hela, Bhagora, and Wagat. A Meena of Jajurh The Raj colonial administration came into existence in 1858, following the  Indian Rebellion of 1857  which caused the government of Britain to decide that leaving colonial administration in the hands of the  East India Company  was a recipe for further discontent. In an attempt to create an orderly administration through a better understanding of the populace, the Raj authorities instituted various measures of classifying the people of India. The word  Meena  is derived from  Meen , the Sanskrit word for  fish , and the Meenas claim a mythological descent from the Matsya avatar, or fish incarnation, of Vishnu. [2] [3]  They also claim to be descendants of the people of the Matsya Kingdom, which flourished in the 6th century B.C. [4]  The historian Pramod Kumar notes that it is likely that the tribes living in the ancient Matsya kingdom were called Meena but it cannot be said with certainty that there is anything common between them and the modern Meenas.
